IP Geolocation

To comply with laws and regulations, all UIP websites need to present a prompt to all visitors to our websites that come from specific geographic areas, e.g. European Union. This prompt is used as a way for the visitor to allow or reject cookies on their browser. In order to do this, UIP needs to detect the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the visitor and consult with a database to identify if the visitor is from within these geographic locations or not. An appropriate banner is then presented to the visitor. The process of detecting the location of a visitor based on their IP is called IP Geolocation. The only information we need and use is the country of origin of the visitor to our websites. We do not detect the exact location of the website visitors.

For the purpose of identifying the country of origin, we use the Country GEOIP2 database from MaxMind that allows us to determine a visitor’s country based on their IP address. Find more information on this link: https://www.maxmind.com/en/geoip2-services-and-databases

The entire GeoIP2 database is stored locally on the server that hosts our website, so visitors’ IP addresses are never transferred to any external, third party. We also store these IP addresses in our web logs for the website, as this helps us diagnose problems with the website.

Who Else Has Access To This Information?

Access to your IP address is also given to the company that hosts our website and provides updates to its content. The company’s name is Signetique IT Pte Ltd

You can get more information about them, here: www.signetique.com

Transfer Of This Information To Third Parties

Your IP and any other personal information, will never be shared with anyone outside UIP or Signetique IT Pte Ltd.
